Sonya has been dancing to the music of the Nutcracker at ballet for the past few weeks, her kindergarten teacher has been talking to me about it and the kids will also be listening to it during music class this month.
So when I found out that Boston Ballet was having a 50% sale for the tickets for their performance at the Boston Opera House, I just thought it would be a great opportunity to bring Sonya to the performance. I was not sure if Clara should go since she hardly ever sit still long enough for anything but we decided to take the chance and just bring her along since there would be lots of colorful characters like the fuzzy bear, all the mouse, the toy soldiers, lambs, etc which I thought might interest her. I had borrowed the ballet on DVD a few weeks ago and watched it with them and they both enjoyed it. Furthermore, Clara has been humming the tune for the past few days.

We were lucky to find street parking at Boston Common and only paid $1.25 instead of $25 had we parked in the open air carpark in front of the Boston Opera House. It was about 15 minutes walk to the Opera House but the weather was not too cold and the Boston Common was just beautiful with the trees all lit up and people skating at the Frog Pond.
We have never been to a ballet performance before and really didn't know what to expect. The Opera House itself was magnificent. We went up the stairs and were greeted by one of the many mice and the bear from the performance. Clara was "brave" with the mouse since it was "smaller".
She was hesitant with the bear but I carried her and in the end, she even gave the bear a great big hug too!
Sonya sat through the whole show. Clara enjoyed Act 1 and was getting sleepy after the intermission. She sat in my lap and tried all the different position to try to get to sleep but didn't. All the dancers were amazing and the orchestra was superb! I had a great time even though Clara kicked the poor lady in front a few times. I hope Clara's sucking on the pacifier noise was not too distracting to her too. I did apologized to her at the end though.
