Missing Whales

Justin read an article in the Boston Globe about right whale sightings at Cape Cod and we decided to drive down to Cape Cod to try our luck. We got to beach at Race Point and Herring Cove but we didn't manage to spot any whale. I think one contributing factor was the thick fog. We could hardly see the horizon.

Nonetheless, Sonya and Clara got excited about the sand so it was not a total disappointment for them :)

After our unsuccessful whale sighting, we drove around hunting for lighthouses instead. The first one we came to was the Wood End Light.

Sonya was pretty enthusiastic about hiking to the lighthouse but we didn't make it there eventually. Firstly, we asked some of the people who were walking back and they said that it was a very long walk (they didn't walk all the way there too). Secondly, the gaps between the rocks on the breakwater were too far apart for Sonya to walk safely. Sonya was also complaining about the cold.

A lady asked if I could help her take a photo of her family and offered to take a photo for us in return :)

Another failed mission and we decided to go to Cape Cod Highland Lighthouse next. We have been there the last time we were in Cape Cod so we were pretty sure that this mission would be successful :)

The fog was also getting thicker and thicker.

Further down the lighthouse was an observation deck. On a good day, you can get an impressive view of the Atlantic Ocean from there. When we were there that day, the fog was so thick that all we could see was a very very faint shoreline. Justin thought that it was "interesting" experience to hear the ocean and not see it due to the thick fog.

There was a golf course next to the lighthouse and someone was actually playing golf in the thick fog!

I spotted a wild rabbit by the carpark which made Sonya and Clara very excited. Justin thought it was in a pretty hilarious position. It looked as though it was reading the electric meter. He asked if the economy was so bad that the electric company had to hire them :)

Water Play

It was nice and warm on Saturday morning. We bought a little wooden bird house from the Dollar Tree Shop and painted it together. While I put up the bird house in the balcony, I got some containers and a bucket full of water for Sonya and Clara to play. It was all that they needed to have a great fun morning :)

Me & My Shadow

Clara and I went for her weekly gymnastic class again this morning and this time, I remembered to bring my camera into the gym with me. I had asked her teacher, Ms Lynn, if I could take photos during class. She said photos are fine, just no video.

The class is usually divided into 4 parts where the children did activities in 4 different sections of the gymnasium. After a quick warm-up, which Clara is slowly getting more willing and patient to do, she was off to do her walk on the "pencil".

Then it is a crawl through octagon tunnel and then somersault down the ramp. Next was the crawl through some play structures before hanging on the poles.

The most exciting is probably this next section which involved the long trampoline where the kids run and hop and drop down to their bums and then prop themselves up on their feet again.

After the long trampoline, it was up the ramp to do a somersault again and then after which is the cartwheel.

Then, it is a big jump onto the platform to walk or do lunges on the beam. The beam is usually a little wobbly and Clara is a little afraid of going on it.

The third section for today is the area with the ball pit. Clara has learnt to climb in herself but she still needs help getting out.

Then she did "hand stand" by the wall.

Then it was up the little platform into pushup position and then lifting one leg off the platform. I can't remember exactly what this is called. Sonya said it is "teeter totter".

Next was the rings and another of Clara's favorite. She can actually lift her feet up to touch her hands!

Last but not least is up the huge trampoline for some freestyle jumping and "sizzle sizzle pop".
