Sonya and Clara went for their 3 year and 6 month checkups respectively at MIT Medical. It took about 2 hours in total and it was not a pleasant visit for all of us.
Sonya is now 37 lbs and in the 87th percentile. She did her hearing and eye tests and passed both of them. She had her flu shot and that she cried quite a bit. She had her blood drawn for the lead test and I think that was really distressing for her. Skittles helped a little but she was a cry baby for the rest of the day :)
Clara is now 17 lbs. She gained less than 2 lbs since her last visit and she is only in the 63rd percentile. I think the doctor mentioned that she didn't gain as much weight as expected. The doctor advised me to give her more solid foods but I am quite disturbed when she said to offer Clara solid food for breakfast, lunch, dinner and even during mid-morning and mid-afternoon! She is supposed to have 1 serving of vegetable and fruits each everyday plus cereal! I was going to start her on rice congee cooked with meats/fish and vegetables which is then mashed with the blender like I did with Sonya but the doctor said that I should hold off meats/fish till Clara is 9 months old. She said that Clara had colic and sensitive skin so it is likely that she has allergies. She also said that I should not give her soy, milk or wheat products till she is a year old. I am so confused and stressed about what to feed her.
Clara had 4 shots. She cried with every shot but after a while, she was all smiley once again :) She did had a slight fever in the middle of the night though and we gave her some Tylenol. Her nose was also a little stuffy so she didn't sleep well after 3am and that means Justin and I also didn't sleep well last night. She only slept again in the car on the way back from sending Sonya to preschool.

Thanksgiving Weekend
The Thanksgiving weekend just passed. There was no turkey for us. Instead of watching football, we drove around Massachusetts in search of interesting places.
On Thursday, we went to the Minuteman National Historic Park and walked on the trail for about 3 hours before we decided to head elsewhere. We remembered we have seen this place along Route 93 that we thought was interesting. We went to Middlesex Fells Reservation but the kids were alreading sleeping when we got there so we just drove on. Our next interesting destination was Mt. Hood Memorial Park. The kids were still sleeping so off we drove again. This time, we went to the Blue Hills Reservation and then drove through Milton before heading home. Sorry, mummy too lazy to take photos that day...
On Friday, I saw this poster saying that there will be Santa Claus at the Watertown Mall at 10am. We went but were disappointed that we need to pay to have photos taken with Santa! We thought we would go to Boston Common instead for a walk. Sonya had fun chasing the pigeons and squirrels.
It was mighty cold which gave us the perfect excuse to have an early lunch at the Vietnamese restuarant in Chinatown. Justin and I each had a bowl of yummy Vietnamese beef noodle soup. Sonya loved the noodles and beef.
Then on Saturday, we decided to go to the other end of Massachusetts and see Mt. Everett. We went after lunch and it took us about 2 hours to get there via Mass Pike. Unfortunately, it was already 4pm and sunset is around 4.30pm these days. There was a beautiful pond and the edges of the water was frozen (it was -2 degrees celsius). Can you see where is Clara?
Clara is inside the baby bjorn inside my jacket. The white roundish thing around my arm was her head. Can you see her little feets at the bottom of my jacket?
I was more interested in the pond while Justin was interested in the view at the peak. Justin walked up to the peak on his own. The next 2 photos are what he saw on the way and at the peak respectively. When he came down, he said that the climb up was about 20 storeys!
Then on Sunday, we went to Gloucester for their Christmas parade.
Sonya liked the Grinch better than Santa :)

Clara is 1/2 Year Old
Clara is 6 months old yesterday. This means that she can start having solid food :) Actually, since she had trouble pooping, the doctor had adviced to give her things like prune sauce, apple sauce and cereal. She didn't really want to take much of anything until last week. She can now finish a whole serving of the Gerber 1st Foods. She has already tried prune sauce, apple sauce, carrot puree and oatmeal cereal. I tried preparing homemade applesauce for her last week. Apple sauce seems to be her favorite right now :) All these food has also helped in her pooping.
Clara can sit pretty well if she does not move about. She likes to kick with her legs and whenever she does so, she topples. That is why I put the boppy pillow around her. It protects her from hitting the floor. Clara does not quite crawl yet but she kept moving backwards whenever she pushes herself up like in the photo below. She also seems to be able to get where she wants by rolling over and over :) Sonya does a good job keeping me informed whenever Clara moved off the carpet!

What happened in Victorville
These are the last batch of photos from our trip to California, mainly photos taken in and around Victorville.
I think I mentioned in one of the previous post that the weather was so hot there, we went to Target to buy a cap for Sonya. We couldn't find any children caps and there were only these soccer caps besides the more expensive golf caps. I just had to put it on Clara and take a photo :)
We spent a lot of time waiting for the testing at the DARPA Urban Challenge. This is Sonya outside NQE Test Area C. Did I mentioned that the whole place was like a huge sandbox for her. She got her hands pretty dirty playing with the sand.

We went driving around US Historic Route 66.
This is taken at Silverlakes which is not too far away from the race site. It seemed like we are in a totally different place once we drove into the residential area. There was the lake with ducks and birds. It was like waterfront housing with private boats parked right outside the backyard of the houses.
And, this is the weird place along Historic Route 66 with all these glass bottles and stuff welded onto metal rods.

This is back to outside NQE Test Site A. We kept Clara in the stroller most of the time when we were not camping out in the Ford Taurus :)
Sonya got tossed about to keep her happy but Justin's arms got pretty tired from all these swinging besides carrying her to watch the race.
I was taking photos of the race and she wanted to copy me so she took Justin's camera phone and did some snapping of her own before the battery went dead.

MIT got into the Finals and they managed to find another test site to test the LR3 before the big day. This is Sonya playing around the Ford Taurus.
These are the surrounding houses near the test site. I think this is a pretty new estate. Most of the houses were still vacant.
I bought these Crayola window markers for Sonya. We decided to use them to draw on the Ford Taurus instead. Don't worry, these inks come right off with a cloth/tissue and water :)
The moon was out in the day :)
