Apple picking season came early thanks to the warmer weather. We went to Honey Pot Hill Orchards last Saturday to pick some fresh apples and, you guessed it, feed the goats again!
There were about 4 different varieties of apples that were ready for picking.
Most of the apple trees are short ones which are great for kids to pick but there were the Gravenstein ones. These are bigger trees and most of the ripe apples were at the top of the tree so we had to climb up the ladder to reach them. Sonya and Clara both had a lot of fun climbing up and down to pick the apples.
If I remember correctly, these are the Akane apples. These apples are so red!
I think there was another variety called Sanza but our 15 pound bag was already full so we didn't pick any.
Now to the most important part of the visit - the animals :)
Instead of feeding the goats directly, you put the feed into a container attached to a conveyor belt and send it up to the top of the platform for the goats. I guess it is a good way to get the goats to exercise since they get fed so much by the visitors.
This smart goat figured out that it was just much easier to intercept the container instead of climbing all the way up.
We went home with lots of apples, a gallon of apple cider and 6 delicious cider donuts :)
