Crying in the Car

Today is the second day Sonya went to preschool. When I went to pick her up, the teachers and the children were in the play area outside. Carla was reading a story to them. Most of the children were sitting down, listening to the story but Sonya kept walking around. She also kept hitting the storybook that Carla was reading. I am not sure if she is pointing something out in the story or just being mischevious. I stayed by the side of the road so as to not distract them. When they were done, I went in. The next thing I know, Sonya was hitting this other boy and the boy was crying. I didn't saw exactly what happened. Valerie stepped in and tried to talk to them. I asked Sonya to say sorry to the boy and told her it was not right to hit anyone. Later, I asked Carla if Sonya hits the other children a lot and Carla said that Sonya is very good in class. She said Sonya is beginning to open up and play with the other children. Valerie commented that Sonya has very good control of her hands and wrist for her age after she saw the bear Sonya traced earlier in the morning and how she also put in the eyes, nose and mouth :) Unfortunately, Sonya cried again when I said it was time to go home :(

I am feeling pretty helpless and frustrated with all the crying that goes on in the car. Sonya cries because she is sad that it is time to go home. Hopefully, she will get the idea that she will be going to preschool every weekday morning and there is no need to cry. As for Clara, she cries every time the car slows down or stops. I have no idea how to comfort her. I have tried calling her name and saying the usual things that I say to her at home. Today, I even tried printing a photo of Sonya, myself and her and stuck it to the seat of the car so that it faces her when she is in the carseat but sadly, it does not work. The only time Clara does not cry in the car is when she is sleeping. But, when Sonya cries, Clara will wake up and join in the crying :(

I will try something else tomorrow...
