Nantasket Beach

Sonya and Clara enjoyed the short visit to the Ogunquit Beach last weekend, Justin suggested that we have a proper beach outing yesterday. We didn't really know which beach to go. We have been to the Revere Beach at least twice already. Our plan was to have an early lunch and then drive around so that Sonya and Clara can have a short nap in the car before we go to the beach. Clara was very tired after lunch and she was knocked out as soon as we got into the car. We thought that we would drive south to kill some time. We drove to Weymouth and then to Hingham before arriving at Nantasket. Sonya didn't manage to nap at all. Clara slept and woke up when we got to Nantasket. The Nantasket Beach looked really inviting. There were a lot of people on the beach but not overly crowded.

Soon after we got to the beach, Sonya suddenly remembered that she had forgotten to bring the toys for building her sandcastle that she had packed earlier in the morning. The girls still had a lot of fun digging with their hands and feet. Actually, Justin commented that maybe it was a good thing that we had forgotten about the pails and the shovels else they would have spent all the time playing with the sand and not go into the water.

In case you are wondering why Clara had the pacifier in almost every photo, as you might already know, we use the pacifier as a "stopper" to prevent her from putting things into her mouth. It worked most of the time but every now and then, she would still want to try what pebbles and sand taste like.

The water was a little cold so whenever Clara felt cold, she would run to me and ask me to carry her.

Justin and Sonya found a crab.

Sonya stepped on something and hurt her foot a little but it was nothing a little sympathy couldn't fix :)

Clara decided to have a sand mask :)

There came the crab again.

Justin took turns taking Sonya and Clara into the water.

Clara was cold again :)

Justin lowered Sonya into the water and some of the water went into her nose (as usual!). She was so terrified that she would not go into the water. She clung on to Justin for dear life even though the water was only a foot deep :)

Clara was cold once again :)

Sonya enjoyed splashing all of us, especially Justin, with water and ran when she was splashed.

It was high tide an hour before we got there. Soon, the water started receding again and that was when it got really fun. The water was only an inch or two deep. Justin and Sonya had a lot of fun lying down in the water.

The receding water created beautiful patterns on the sand.

Sonya showing off her "swimming".

Soon, another boy joined in :)

Sonya asked Justin to lie down so that she could give him a sand bath :)

Sonya asked for her stomach to be covered in sand :)

Soon it was foot burying time.

First, it was Clara's turn.

Then it was Sonya's turn.

Clara's turn again.

Then Justin's.

Clara's again.

She lost her balance and sat down with her feet still in the sand.

Then, Sonya tried burying her hand.

Then it was time to show her "swimming" skills again.

Clara spotted seagulls and went towards it. The seagulls were probably half her size!

Justin and Sonya found these tiny shrimp-like creatures in the sand.

By this time, Sonya had lost all fear of the water and was running in and out on her own, under our watchful eyes of course :)

Clara was cold again :)

Justin and Sonya practising their karate moves. Actually, they were just splashing water everywhere.

Clara was getting really tired and we decided that it was time to head home.

This beach outing more or less concluded our summer adventures for this year. Soon, the weather will be getting cold again and time to bundle up the kids...
