Boston Ballet

Sonya really liked the class at Fresh Pond Ballet last year and wanted to do more of "ballet". We didn't think that the instructor was very good so we decided to try Boston Ballet instead this year. She had her first class this morning. It is from 11.15 am - 12 noon every Sunday. She was excited from the moment she woke up and kept asking if it was time to go.

There were a total of 9 children in the class today - 8 girls and 1 boy! And, the boy was so cute and stood out among the girls :) He wasn't shy and didn't feel out of place at all among the girls.

The parents waited around while the teacher took attendance before getting the children into the studio. She left the door opened today and the parents could watch from the corridor. I wonder if it would be the same for future classes. Fresh Pond Ballet only had a tiny window from which parents took turns to peek into the studio and if you get too close, the instructor actually asked you to move farther away. She said it was distracting for the children. The Boston Ballet instructor seemed a lot more comfortable with the children and also with the parents.

Sonya did pretty fine for the first class although there were times where she just stood still and just observed what the other children were doing. I think she can be rather suspicious and would rather wait and see what was happening before deciding if she should join in.

I forgot to mention that this is not a ballet class but a Rhythm and Movement class. Ballet only starts from age 5 if I am not wrong.

Soon, it was dismissal time. The children lined up to get a copy of the student handbook before they left.

Below is a short clip of some of the things the children did in the class :)

In case you are wondering where is Clara, she stayed with me in the corridor during the lesson. Justin wanted to take a look at Sonya's first class too but couldn't find a parking spot so he went to office instead. Anyways, Clara had a good time too I think. She was watching what the children were doing. When they were drumming with sticks, she started drumming on chairs. When she heard music, she started dancing too. I think she was dying to go in and join in the fun! There were times when she got bored too and started climbing up and down the chairs. She even tried to tickle the guy who was sitting beside me!
