Chinese New Year Day

We started our first day of the Chinese New Year having extras for breakfast. We usually just have cereals and sometimes on weekends, we make pancakes/waffles/etc.

When Clara saw Justin getting all the extras for breakfast, she quickly gobbled down her cheerios and exclaimed, "I'm ready!" She usually takes ages to finish her 3 tablespoonfuls of cereal.

We usually get new clothes for Chinese New Year and I got some tiger stripe (more like leopards I know! Oh well...) skirts for Sonya and Clara. I didn't buy these specifically for the Tiger year. They were on sale at Gymboree and were only $4 each!

At noon, we all went for Sonya's ballet class. It was Open House again and the family and friends got to go into the studio to see the children dance.

After ballet, it is almost ritual (but we are close to breaking it!) that we go to Royal East Restaurant where Sonya and Clara get their weekly dose of "crunchy noodles".

After lunch, we drove around Fresh Pond while Sonya and Clara caught a quick nap before we went to Lanes and Games for bowling. It was their first time bowling and Sonya initially didn't want to try. I suspect the bowling shoes were not pretty enough for her.

Justin was Player 1. See how "pro" he looked? You also have to squinge your eyes to see the guard rails by the side of the lane. Those helped to bounce the balls back into the lane instead of going down the what we call "long kang" in Singapore.

Clara was Player 2. Here is her "coach" psyching her for the big win.

There goes the ball... at snail speed unfortunately. We often have to sit down and wait for the ball to reach the pins. It was hilarious!

This was Clara special move. You can see more in the video at the end of this post.

The balls moved so slow that after a while, we just got her to start throwing the next ball even before the previous one hit the pins. Towards the end of the game, there were three balls traveling at snail speed in the lane and they all just didn't have enough to reach any of the pins :)

Here's me. I was better at striking the two corner pins then the ones in the center besides going down the "long kang" near the end of the lane.

In between games, Sonya and Clara took turns to sit in front of the monitor to watch what Clara called "piano" on the screen.

Sonya quickly realized that this was too much fun to let those shoes get in the way. She got the shoes on and was soon throwing those balls down the lane. She, of course, had her own special move :) See video at bottom!

We had so much fun, Sonya is already asking if we could do it again :)
