From our hotel room, we got a pretty good view of the sunrise every morning. I think the air was so polluted that the sun was a clear bright orange circle.

Here's the main room with the king-size bed. Sorry about the mess :)

Here's "Sonya's room" and bed.

Today was the day that Justin had a paper to present at 10.30am. He said we could go listen if we wanted to. After a quick bath for Sonya and Clara, I thought we could go for a cruise along the Huang Pu River and still make it in time for Justin's presentation. We rushed to the boat dock next to the hotel only to find out that there were no cruise at all this year. Reason? Renovation! Can you understand why I said it seemed like the whole city was under renovation?

With no cruise to take, we strolled along the river to take some photos.

It was low tide and I was surprised to find workers in the river picking rubbish. I never would have thought that it was that shallow near the bank.

Even more amazing is that huge container ships could actually sail through the river (I assume that there is a very drastic drop somewhere in the river bank)! Reminded me of the scene in the movie "The Day After Tomorrow" where the ship sailed through the streets of Manhattan in front of the New York Public Library.

It was very cold and also time for Justin's presentation.

When we first walked in, the previous speaker was still presenting so I hurried Sonya and Clara out again. We waited for a while just to make sure that it was Justin who was presenting before we went in again. I am sure all those with kids will understand that children (and many adults too) do not come with volume control and they ask about everything at the most inappropriate time.

After the presentation, we left Justin at the conference and went for lunch at 鼎泰豐 (Din Tai Fung) at Super Brand Mall (正大广场). It is a Taiwanese restaurant that serves superb chinese dumplings, particularly 小笼包.

The restaurant had a great view of the Huangpu River and the wall were decorated with painted portraits of Chinese celebrities.

We initially ordered a bowl of braised beef noodle soup (no beef, just noodles), steamed pork and glutinous rice shaomai, and steamed layered cake.

But Sonya and Clara enjoyed the steamed layered cake so much we ordered another one and a bowl of glutinous rice ball soup :)

With a full stomach, we braced the cold and walked over to the Shanghai Aquarium where we spent the rest of the afternoon.

Shark babies at various different stages.

The tanks were all very huge and with open tops. Although every time you step too close to the exhibit, the recorded voice told you not to place your hands into the water, there really is nothing stopping you from doing so.

They divided the exhibits according to the different continents and that is why there were giraffes and polar bears :)

The seal was just bumping his nose at the railing. Not sure why he kept doing that.

This was a gigantic tank with so many huge stingrays!

The aquarium boast the longest underwater tunnel in the world. It made the one in Singapore seemed even more pathetic.

As usual, it was nap time after the visit to the aquarium and then dinner with Justin in the evening. He heard about our feast at Din Tai Fung and we went back to the same shopping mall to look for more yummy food.

This time, it was cantonese style 点心 (dim sum).
