Sonya's 5th Birthday Party

Sonya will be 5 years old on 19 November so we held a birthday party for her yesterday. She wanted a flower themed party and so we had a smaller scale party (compared to the previous ones) with some of her closest girlfriends (I didn't think boys will enjoy a flower party). We also tried a "drop-off" party for the first time where the parents could leave their children at the party with us and then pick them up again at the end of the party but they were welcome to stay at the party as well if they wanted.

Since it was all girls, we did some jewelery making with the Bling Magic machine (Sonya's birthday present from my girlfriends when we were in Singapore) and the Shrinky Dinks Jewelery (another Sonya's present but from last year or the year before I think).

I also bought some face paint and did some painting on the girls.

And yes, I made her a nice flower themed birthday cake. The flowers were store bought but I made the butterflies from royal icing. Each of Sonya and Clara's birthdays are opportunities for me to try out different cake decorating techniques :)

Piñata is quite a common item at birthday parties over here and so I made one for Sonya this year. Yes, I could have bought one for about $11.99 plus shipping but again, I just have to try to make one myself. It was a lot of work but I think Sonya enjoyed helping me with it.

My Piñata was too strong for the girls. We had to take a break so that Justin could slash a few holes so that it would be easier for the girls to break it.

It eventually broke and the girls went for the candies hidden inside :)

  1. Bling Magic machine? - that name is cracking me up.

I love all of your artistic endeavors in honor of your girls' birthdays. They're all amazing and turn out beautiful; you artist types always amaze me. :)

    Elizabeth had a great time!

  2. Thanks, Heather!

Elizabeth tried to work on the bling (is it more of a british lingo?) a few times but never got it completed else she would have some bling bling to bring home :)

Actually, there really isn't anything magic in the machine. Just some sparkling pieces that get arranged and glue applied so that they stick on cellphones or any smooth surfaces.
