Road Trip 2009 - Redwood National Park

I had prepared all the photos from the road trip, thinking that I could use them to update the blog while I was back in Singapore but didn't manage to post anything due to various reasons. Anyway, I am going to continue with Day 4 of our 2009 road trip...

From Eureka, it was time drive northwards again to explore the Redwood National Park and State Parks. Redwood and Sequoia are actually from the same species but their trunk don't grow as wide (still much bigger than the usual trees that we see) as the giant sequoias but they do grow much taller. So they are the tallest trees in the world!

We were greeted with thick fog that morning, and as we eventually found out that the coastal areas are just covered with thick fog almost every morning that time of the year :( So for all of who are planning to visit the west coast soon, July is not a good time to do so.

We were disappointed but at least there were plenty of pretty wildflowers to lift our spirits.

Sonya and Clara enjoyed the yummy strawberries that we bought the day before from San Francisco.

We drove into the Redwood National Park and this is one of the lookout points in the park. There is no entrance fee for Redwood National Park. I guess unlike places like Grand Canyon National Park or Yosemite National Park where accessibility into the park is really limited to the few service roads, it is hard to enforce payment.

Here is the replacement car we got at San Francisco after the first car's rear door's lock became faulty.

Inside the park, we had to drive across a few shallow streams which was quite interesting simply because we had never done that before. Sonya was quite excited about it.

Sonya and Clara wanted to touch the water in the icy cold streams.

Compare the size of our car with the size of the trees!

We saw a couple collecting firewood along the road and they help us with a photo :)

These are the special corkscrew trees. I really wondered how the two trees twisted themselves together.

After dinner at the restaurant, we let Sonya and Clara played for a while on the beach as our hotel for the night was just nearby. We would not have the problem of them falling asleep in the car and sandy all over and not able to bath them till the next day.
