First Day of School

Both Sonya and Clara started their first day of school this week. Sonya started kindergarten on Monday and Clara started going to the Cambridge Kids' Coop on Tuesday. They both love school very much (maybe because there isn't much studying involved yet).

I prepare a lunchbox for Sonya to bring to school each morning and she really like it. She even ate the fruits and vegetables that I sneaked in :)

All students who live more than 1 mile away from school are entitled to take the free school bus. Sonya has been dying to take the yellow school bus ever since she started preschool and of course now that she can, she really wanted to. Despite all the horror stories that I have read in the news, I decided to let her try the school bus. I feel better knowing that she goes on the bus with her friend, Bjarney, who is our neighbor and is also in the same kindergarten class as Sonya. So, they took the bus for the first time this morning and they were both so excited and happy :)

No, she was not in trouble with the police :) The school bus picks them up in front of the MIT Police station, which is just opposite our house, at about 7.50am and drops them off in front of our house at about 2.30pm.

Each child who takes the school bus has a bus tag attached to his / her backpack which has her name, information on the school, bus stop to drop off, and my contact no.

There they go on the school bus.

As I mentioned, Clara also started going to the Cambridge Kids' Coop this week. She has her own backpack too and I drive her to and fro every Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Because it is a cooperative, each parent will have to volunteer once a week as one of the 3 caregivers each day. So I drop Clara off on Tuesdays and Fridays and I stayed with her to "work" on Thursdays.

They are enjoying their time in school while I enjoy my two mornings off to spend some time by myself and it seems to be working out very well :)
