Pumpkin Carving

Here is the pumpkin we got from our apple picking trip at the Honeypot Hill Orchards. I got a small set of tools from Target and did pumpkin carving with Sonya while Clara napped.

First, we drew a zig-zag patterns around the stem and then saw the pumpkin open following the zig-zag pattern.

Seeds and pulp dangling from the pumpkin.

Sonya's job was to pick out the seeds while I scrapped out the pulp and also the flesh of the pumpkin until the wall is about 1 inch thick as recommended in the tool kit.

Next was to find a nice pattern that we like and then draw it on paper. We then transferred the pattern onto the pumpkin by making tiny holes along the lines, very much like what you do in sewing.

Clara woke up from her nap and watched what we were doing. I carved the design onto the pumpkin while Sonya watched tv and Clara made a big mess again with all her toys.

Sonya picked up the stem of the pumpkin, raised it up high and shouted, "Statue of Liberty!"

Here's our final design for the big pumpkin. I still had to carve eyes and mouth for the little green gourd that's being "eaten".

Sonya got out the torchlights and tried lighting the pumpkin :)
