Cancun: Sun, Sand and Sea

The next morning, we woke up to a beautiful sunrise.

Sonya and Clara enjoyed chocolate milk on the terrace while I took photos and Justin did his usual morning stuffs :)

Initially, I thought the large birds flying in the sky were seagulls but they were in fact pelicans.

Justin was ready and off we went for breakfast. We went to restaurant at the hotel and it turned out to be a very expensive breakfast. The buffet was 300 pesos per person!

After breakfast, Justin went off to the conference while I brought the kids to explore the hotel grounds. I wanted to take some nice photos of them in their clean dresses before they get all wet and sandy.

This hut was for outdoor spa. We were there early and they have yet to set up the massage beds and stuff.

We went to our hotel room and changed into our swimming costumes and went into the kids' pool. I think you can see for yourself from Sonya and Clara's faces if they like the water :)

After the pool, we walked down to the beach where we built sandcastles with the containers and shovels that we brought.

This is my work of art in sand.

They had a flag system to inform swimmers of the condition of the water. A green flag means calm waters, a yellow flag means to be cautious in the water and a red flag means dangerous waters. The winds were quite strong the few days that we were there and it was always yellow flag in the day and red flag at night.

After spending the whole morning in the pool and the beach, we washed up and joined Justin for lunch at the Rainforest Cafe. Clara was exhausted and fell asleep while we walked over to the restaurant. I chose the table next to the gorilla display thinking that she would like it but she was really scared. She cried and kept saying, "Don't want." and "Don't like it."

Justin went back to the conference after lunch and I brought the kids to the Fiesta Kids Club which was something like a free babysitting service for kids at the hotel. Parents could leave their kids, between the ages of 4 - 12 years old, at the club from 11am to 5pm where they do different supervised activities while the parents went off to do whatever they want to do without the kids. Children under 4 years old can also play in the club but an adult must accompany the child. I stayed there with Sonya and Clara. Sonya decorated t-shirts and photo frames, watched Finding Nemo in Spanish and played with kids' rollerskates. Clara drew with markers and threatened to make a big mess as usual :)

The kids got bored (I didn't want to bring them back to the pool or beach just in case they get too much sun and get sick) and we went back to the hotel room to rest and waited for Justin to be done with the conference.

We joined other people from MIT for dinner for dinner. It was a nice restaurant but just too loud for the kids. Sonya and Clara were overwhelmed with the loud music and noise and they were also very tired.

We left early after finishing our yummy huge Margarita :)
