It was another sunny day yesterday so we took a drive up to Cape Elizabeth in Maine and stopping at the beautiful beaches in York and Ogunquit, Maine. Parking was quite impossible at the beach at York so I brought Sonya and Clara down just to take photos while Justin stayed in the car.

We were fortunate to find a spot for 30-minute parking so we went down to the beach at Ogunquit to take a look. The sand and the sea were just too irresistible to Sonya and Clara. They covered themselves with sand and got their clothes wet. Luckily, I had a spare change of clothes with me.

Justin carefully timed our stay just in case we get another ticket. We quickly got the girls changed in the restroom and by the time we were done, sure enough the policeman was standing by our car making sure that we removed our car from the 30-minute parking spot.
I am sure I have mentioned before that I hardly ever leave home without snacks in my bag. It is what keeps the girls quiet on car rides. I brought Clara to the fish market last Saturday and forgot about the snacks. She got bored pretty quickly and it didn't help that there were "mum mum" everywhere. I quickly grabbed a box of breadsticks and that kept her quiet all the way home :) Sonya was munching on the breadsticks on our way to Cape Elizabeth and classical music was playing in the background. She immediately started pretending that the breadstick was a baton and she was the conductor of an orchestra :)

We reached Two Lights at Cape Elizabeth at about 4.15pm and the girls were both sound asleep in their carseats. Justin stayed with them in the car while I went down by the sea to take photos. It had been low tide and all the rocks (which looked a lot like wood) were exposed. I saw that many people went down to the rocks and some were even sitting there enjoying a nice sea breeze so I went down to the rocks too. A very loud siren had sounded and it took me a long time before I realized that it was the siren to warn people that the tide was coming in. The waves were very strong and soon, they were creeping closer and closer towards me. I quickly went back to the car to get Justin to go take a look at the beautiful rocks before the tide completely covered it.

Sonya and Clara woke up just as we were entering the Two Lights State Park. The park ranger told us that it was the site of an old WWII bunker.

We found this plant with bright red fruits which looked like mini pomegranate to me.

There was a path down to the rocks below so we went down to take photos. The rocks were really amazing!

It was again a very challenging task to get Sonya and Clara to take photos. Sonya kept complaining about the sun being too bright and Clara just would not keep still.

Finally, Sonya asked if she can make some silly faces while taking photos. I said yes and that finally brought big smiles (and silly faces, of course) to her face :)

Sonya found the "big hole" in the rock in the photo below.

Sonya quite readily posed with the flowers and of course, she needed to make more silly faces.

There were quite a few people who were fishing on the rocks.

To end the day peacefully, we agreed to let Sonya and Clara play at the playground in the park for a while before we had to go find some dinner and then take a 2-hour drive back to Cambridge, MA.

By the end we reached home, it was already 9pm and after a quick shower, it was bedtime for Sonya and Clara :)
