It is Justin's birthday today! I have been asking Sonya and Clara what kind of birthday we should have for him and they have time and again suggested a hide-and-seek birthday. Hide-and-seek seems to have become part of their daily routine with him. They hear him opening the front door and immediately drop whatever that they are doing and hide for him to seek :)
How do you have a hide-and-seek birthday? I cracked my head for a few days and finally came up with the idea in the photo above. I made a box with 36 individual compartments in which we "hide" things for Justin to "seek". The compartments were made out of egg cartons so we couldn't find much things to fit inside so eventually it was just drawings from Sonya and Clara, puppy figurines that can expand and contract, lots of chocolates and little photos of Sonya and Clara with different expressions.
I asked Clara whether we should have a banana or chocolate cake for Justin and she chose the banana cake :)
Yummy banana cake with caramelized bananas between the layers and covered with mascapone cheese frosting. The original recipe had a caramel sauce on the cake but I omitted that and sprinkled toasted almonds instead since I know Justin would find the caramel sauce too sweet.
These two had been waiting all afternoon for the cake.
