Baltimore - Mt Vernon

We followed Justin on another conference trip and this time to Baltimore, Maryland. We got there early in the day and had the chance to just drive around to soak up some sights before checking in at the hotel.

First stop was the Washington Monument in the Mt Vernon area. It was awfully quiet and it was only later that we realized most of whatever is here are closed Mondays and Tuesdays :(

It is not a very common thing to have daddy around these days and Sonya and Clara both insisted on holding his hands :)

The Walters Art Museum was also closed :(

Luckily, the Basilica of the Assumption, 2 blocks down from the monument, was open. I had read that this is the oldest church in America and was surprise that it didn't look like an old church at all.

There was a crypt, where they buried their first archbishop, beneath the main church.

There is also a museum to document the history of the cathedral.
