Went to the Frog Pond in Boston Common on New Year Day to let Sonya try ice skating for the first time. We didn't join in the New Year Eve celebration the night before because it was cold and snowing. The weather was cold enough and we got to see the ice sculptures around Boston Common before they all melted.

There was quite a queue to get into the ice skating rink. Sonya and Clara entertained themselves and us by being silly of course.

Every so often, all the skaters will have to get off the ice and let the zamboni re-surface the ice.

The ice surface was nice and smooth again and everyone got back to their skating.

We were still queuing...

Finally!

Sonya and Justin went ice skating while Clara and I waited outside the rink to watch. Clara is still too young and will just be too dangerous with so many people in the rink.

Having said that, we saw some might small guys going pretty fast!

Justin left Sonya to stand by the side of the rink to let her get used to the ice surface and skates while he did a quick refresher himself.

Poor Clara could only watch so I treated her to some chocolates :) She had fun just stamping in the snow and slush.

Sonya fell a lot but Justin said she laughed each time she fell and got back up skating again :)

There was one time where she fell and was still on the ground when another girl fell next to Sonya and kicked Sonya on the legs. Sonya cried and it must have really hurt but she was fine. I was mad that the girl didn't apologize until I told her to.

There was music playing around the rink and Clara danced her silly dance :)

The sun was setting and the lights came on.

We walked down Boston Common towards the State House later to take some photos.

Ended the day with dinner in Chinatown :)
