Road Trip 2009 - Yosemite National Park

Photobucket

The second stop for our road trip was the famous Yosemite National Park. We stayed overnight at Four Points at Fresno, CA. It was another 2 hour drive before we got to Yosemite from Fresno and there was a queue at the park entrance when we got there.

Our first stop was Glacier Point. That great big giant rock in the background is Half Dome. It is 7214 feet at Glacier Point.

Yosemite is also well-known for the many waterfalls. Some of the waterfalls actually dry up in the summer.

Many people climbed onto this rock to take photos. I asked Justin to have a go too but I forgot to use the flash to brighten up his face :(

I thought of different activities to keep Sonya and Clara occupied and happy. Since there were so many big trees and we got paper and crayons with us, I got them to try some tree rubbings.

Sonya was very enthusiastic about it. Clara was more interested in the tiny rocks on the ground.

While we were going back to the car, I saw some people gathering on the opposite side of the carpark. From previous experience, there is a high chance that there's some wildlife when you see people gathering at a spot. There was no elk or bear but we found the people feeding squirrel. We were just going to watch but they passed some seed to let us try feeding it too.

It was fun but we really should not have done that since we were supposed to keep wildlife wild.

If you look down beyond the railings, you will see Yosemite Valley at the bottom.

Do you see the valley in the photos below? If I am not wrong, it is the work of glaciers long long time ago.

Our next stop was Bridalveil Fall in the Yosemite Valley.

People were splashing in the stream at the bottom of the fall and Sonya had to have a go too. Well she didn't really splash much. She got her hands wet and got Justin to splash me with the water.

Near the east end of the Yosemite Valley, we found a place for horseback riding. Sonya and Clara were all too young to ride on the horses and we also didn't have enough time for it. But they learnt how horses stamp their feet to get the "buggy bugs" off their bodies :)

I got some funny photos of this horse too :)

Before we headed off for dinner at the Yosemite Lodge, we stopped at the Lower Yosemite Fall Trail. The Upper Yosemite Fall Trail will actually take you all the way up to the top of the Yosemite Fall.

After dinner, it was time to head to our hotel in Mariposa, CA for the night. Along the way, we encountered a one-lane bridge. Cars stopped at the traffic light just before the bridge and can only get on the bridge when the lights turned green.
