Habitat, Belmont

Haggerty Preschool went on a fieldtrip to Habitat in Belmont on Monday.

It was a little chilly in the shade.

All the kids were spilt into different groups led by a staff from the Habitat and also parents / teachers. Azilah and myself were in the group led by Pam from Habitat. Sonya, Clara, Eva, Alana and Natalie were with us.

Here's Lissa with Nathan, Francesca, Dashiell and Eliza.

Clara was initially walking around on her own but I eventually put her in the sling because it was just a little hazardous for her.

Pam was really nice. She pointed things out to the kids and got them thinking and observing their environment instead of merely taking a stroll through the area.

Pam was the "Mother Goose". Whenever she said, "Quack quack", it meant that it was time for the kids to follow and move along.

Our group went down to the pond where we saw a frog, turtles, snails, etc.

Pam got different colored pom-poms. The kids were tasked to look for things that match the color of their pom-poms. Sonya choose the color red (she claimed it was her favorite color) but soon realized that red color was not very common in that area.

A huge fly landed on the top of Sonya's head. She didn't realize and I didn't tell her else she would have really freaked out.

Pam got the kids thinking about shelter for the different animals. She got them to imagine that their pom-poms are little animals and they had to build a shelter for them.

Sonya and Eva buried their animals :)

The kids closed their eyes while Pam hid the pom-poms for a pom-pom hunt.

After the pond, it was to the meadows while on the way back to the carpark.

Poison Ivy!

There were also lots of inch worms hanging from the trees.

Sonya and Eva used their pom-poms to hold the inch worms which Pam carefully placed back onto the tree later.

The kids took turns to huff and puff at the dandelion.

Everyone gathered back at the carpark and lined up to get onto the bus to head back to preschool.
